Animatricks is the oldest and presently the only animation festival in Finland. For starting the festival in 2000 there were three reasons. Firstly, there was a need to give supportive attention to the budding Finnish animation production: To give a forum for the short films that would end up in a drawer and give new and old people of the trade a chance to meet. Secondly, we want to show the rich tradition of European animation tradition, which has been in the shadow from the Finnish public. Thirdly, we want to contribute to the presenting of animated films for broad audiences and this we see as a means of making people appreciate the trade more.

During sever years, Animatricks has taken its place among film festivals. Now, in 2007 we have taken a step towards international direction by giving the Nordic and Baltic animations a category of their own. Also the Finnish National Council for Cinema has approved Animatricks among the nationally significant international film festivals. Our goal is to grow by voluntary help a festival that started as a grass roots level into a significant international animation event. Without forgetting to have good time! The Animatricks animation festival is organized by the Palikka Association.
