Motel Films is an Amsterdam based production company that develops and produces feature films, television drama and documentaries for the Dutch and international market. Since its establishment in 1995 Jeroen Beker and Frans van Gestel have an eye for young talent. Ten years ago, Motel Films initiated in the feature film series Route 2000 and No More Heroes. These series gave young directors the opportunity to make a film about contemporary matters. One of these films, THE POLISH BRIDE (1998), by Karim Traïdia, was released in more than fifteen countries and won numerous national and international prizes.

Motel Films has produced more remarkable films, like the television film LOVERBOY (Lodewijk Crijns, 2002), the family film IN ORANGE (Joram Lürsen, 2004), the romantic comedy PHILEINE SAYS SORRY (Robert Jan Westdijk, 2003), PARADISE GIRLS (Fow Pyng Hu, 2004), and NORTHERN LIGHT (David Lammers, 2006). In 2006 Motel Films also produced BLACK BOOK by Paul Verhoeven, that won several prizes and awards and was a Dutch entry for the Oscars of 2007. The romantic comedy LOVE IS ALL (Joram Lürsen, 2007, written by Kim van Kooten) is now screened in 91 Dutch film theatres.

Motel Films also participates on the international film market. Films like GIRL (Dorothée van den Berghe, 2002), THE STRATOSPHERE GIRL (MX Oberg, 2004), SOMEONE ELSE'S HAPPINESS (Fien Troch, 2005) and recently STELLET LICHT are all international co-productions of Motel Films. SOMEONE ELSE'S HAPPINESS was the Belgium entry for the Oscars of 2007. STELLET LICHT, which is directed by Carlos Reygadas, was screened in the main competition of the Film Festival in Cannes of 2007 and won the Jury Prize.

Besides films, Motel Films also produces television drama. At the end of 2007 two television series of Motel Films will appear on Dutch television. One of them is Stellenbosch, which is partly shot in South Africa and directed by Michiel van Jaarsveld. The other one is a mini series called The Prince and the Girl. This series tells the story of the complicated love between prince Friso, the son of the Dutch queen Beatrix, and a woman called Mabel Wisse Smit. The Prince and the Girl has won two Golden Calves at the Dutch Film Festival of 2007.
